History

Echo Hill Ranch is a small, personal camp for boys and girls owned and operated for two generations by the Friedman family. We are the only camp in the Southwest dedicated to providing the very best of non-competitive and child-centered camping.

We believe that camp in the summer is as important to a child’s development as school in winter. In our increasingly fast-paced, challenging world, Echo Hill provides a valuable opportunity for children to grow and have fun in a relaxed and nurturing setting.

Our community is made up of new campers as well as many who are returning second and third generation campers. Children come to Echo Hill from across Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Maryland, Georgia, California, Mexico, Europe and Israel. Since it’s founding in 1953 by Dr. and Mrs. S. T. Friedman, Echo Hill has been a valuable resource for Jewish families in the Southwest who want their children to attend a fine camp that has a wide range of activities and provides a Jewish social setting. Though campers and staff of all faiths attend Echo Hill, we celebrate Shabbat with candle lighting and creative, camper led services on Friday evenings. Our kitchen and meal service is Kosher-style, camp projects included baking challah for Friday night meals, and we provide Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring.

We are proud to be the first as well as the only family-owned camp in Texas that serves the Jewish community while also welcoming families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

For over fifty years, Echo Hill has provided children with summers of fun, skill development and self fulfillment. We invite you to consider Echo Hill Ranch for your child.
